OmniDICOM volume-rendering one abdominal CT with its anterior half cut away by the scalpel, so the ribs, spine and kidneys are seen from the front.
The scalpel takes an area you draw on the view and extrudes it through the volume, so the front of the patient comes off and you look straight in — then the cut goes back and the same volume is shown as a maximum-intensity projection. What it does

Open

Anything on the disc

DICOMDIR, CD/DVD, plain folders, multi-frame instances and the compressed transfer syntaxes that usually stop a viewer at the door. Point it at a whole drive and what it finds goes into a local archive you can search.

Review

2D reading tools

Named window presets — abdomen, angio, bone, brain, chest, lungs — and your own on the number keys, applied per panel, so two studies can sit side by side under two different windows. Zoom, pan, and cine at each run's declared rate.

Reconstruct

MPR, MIP and volume rendering

Reslice along any plane, or take a maximum-intensity projection. The scalpel extrudes an area you draw straight through the volume, so you can cut away what blocks the view — and put it back. Raycast on the CPU: no discrete GPU required.

Measure

Calibrated measurements

Length, angle, and region statistics in real units, with manual calibration for series that arrive without pixel spacing.

PACS and DICOMweb

Query and retrieve over C-FIND / C-MOVE / C-GET, send with C-STORE, or talk QIDO-RS and WADO-RS. It also listens: point a node at it and pushed studies arrive in the viewer.

Out in the format you need

Original DICOM files, PNG, JPEG and BMP stills, MP4 and WMV movies of a run or a turning volume — the image in front of you, the whole series, or every series you have open.

An image processing bench

Sharpen, edge-preserving smoothing, background subtraction, contrast stretch and more, stacked in the order you choose. Saving writes a new series with new instance UIDs, marked as processed — the original is never touched. The chain itself is kept against the series, so the study you reopen next month still carries the filters you left on it. Image enhancement for research and review.

Where the pixels go

Nowhere.

Studies are decoded, rendered and processed on the machine in front of you. There is no upload step, no cloud account to view an image, and no processing queue somewhere else.

Image processing stays local; transfers are your choice. Images leave your machine only when you send them to PACS or DICOMweb nodes you configure. Licence requests carry your key or signed token, a hashed machine id, a device label and the app version — never images, file names or patient details.

No automatic crash-report uploads. The app does not send crash reports to us. If you contact support, share only the technical details needed and remove patient information or private file paths.

Originals are never overwritten. Processed images are written out as a new series with new instance UIDs and a description that says it is processed, so a result can never be mistaken for the source it came from.

It works offline. Reading, measuring and processing need no connection at all. The licence checks in once a day when you are online, and keeps working for five days without. A machine that never reaches the internet needs a hand, so talk to us if yours is one.

One feature set, not one and a substitute

The reslicing, the scalpel, the measurements, the PACS client and the export dialog are one codebase, not a Mac port of a Windows app. Everything on this page is the macOS build; the Windows build comes from the same source and is in validation now. The lab stops running one tool on the Windows box and a different, thinner one on the Mac — and stops having two sets of habits.

A processing bench that stays putPRO

Filters stack in the order you choose and apply to the view, so nothing is written until you say so. What you do write is a new series with new instance UIDs, and the chain is remembered against the series — the study reopens next month the way you left it, which is the difference between a filter and a method.

PACS and DICOMweb in the same window

Query and retrieve over C-FIND, C-MOVE and C-GET, send with C-STORE, and take pushes from a node that has been pointed at you. DICOMweb servers sit in the same node list and answer QIDO-RS and WADO-RS. No gateway to stand up, no separate retrieve tool, no exporting a study just to open it somewhere else.

One machine at a time — and when the machine changes, Deactivate this computer is a button inside the app. Moving to a new laptop is two minutes on a Sunday, not a support ticket that waits for someone in another time zone to wake up.

Tell us the tool you are missing and why, and it goes on the list; Professional subscribers go to the front of it. This is small enough that the person reading your mail is the person who writes the code — which is worth something, and is also the honest limit of what we can promise.

OmniDICOM is intended for the viewing, review and secondary review of medical images for research and educational purposes only. It is not a medical device, has not been cleared or certified by any regulatory authority, and is not intended for diagnosis, primary interpretation, or clinical decision-making.

Images that have been processed or enhanced in OmniDICOM are derived images for reference and research purposes. The original series is always preserved. Users are responsible for determining whether the software is appropriate for their intended purpose and for complying with the regulations that apply to them.
